- Diwali 2026 falls on a weekend — Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, Choti Diwali on Saturday the 7th and Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November. Every host in Mumbai wants the same three days.
- We bring the kitchen to you: equipment, service staff, live counters and the clear-up, at your home, your society hall or your building compound.
- Mithai and farsan made in our own kitchen rather than bought in, plus regional festive menus and live counters that keep producing through the evening.
- Corporate Diwali parties and client dinners crowd the weekday evenings on either side of the festival. Both calendars fill early — enquire well before November.
The Year Diwali Lands on a Weekend
In 2026 the festival runs from Friday 6 November to Tuesday 10 November, with Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November. Dhanteras on a Friday, Choti Diwali on a Saturday, the main night on a Sunday — for once nobody has to take leave, and the whole city is free to entertain on exactly the same three days.
That is wonderful for guests and difficult for kitchens. A weekend Diwali means the demand that usually spreads across a working week compresses into seventy-two hours, and it is the single most useful thing to know when planning outdoor catering in Mumbai this year. The households that get the evening they pictured are the ones who fixed their date in September, not the ones who started calling in the last week of October.
Why Diwali Outgrew the Home Kitchen
Diwali hospitality has quietly changed shape. Where once a family cooked for the relatives who dropped in, a Mumbai household now hosts in layers — the puja lunch for immediate family, the card party that runs past midnight, the open house where sixty neighbours arrive across four hours, the Sunday dinner that brings everyone together at once.
Those are four different meals with four different service problems, and they fall on consecutive days. Cooking through all of them means someone spends the festival in the kitchen instead of at the puja — usually the person who most wanted to be there. It is the reason so many families now treat catering as part of the celebration rather than a last resort, and the reason an ODC service in Mumbai is as likely to be sent to a home in Andheri as to a banquet hall.
What a Catered Diwali at Home Actually Looks Like
The kitchen comes to you. We arrive with equipment, preparation staff, service staff and everything the evening needs, set up in whatever space you have — a flat, a society banquet hall, a building compound, a terrace — and take it all away afterwards. You are a guest at your own Diwali.
A mithai and farsan counter, made rather than bought
The sweets are where most Diwali catering quietly gives itself away. Ours are made in our own kitchen: kaju katli, motichoor and besan ladoo, anjeer and dry-fruit rolls, mawa and malai preparations, alongside a savoury farsan counter of chakli, chivda, shankarpali, mathri and fresh-fried namkeen. Set out together as a counter, they do the work a sweet box never does — guests graze across an evening instead of leaving with a parcel.
Live counters that carry the long evenings
Card nights and open houses run for hours and never gather everyone at one moment, which is exactly what a buffet handles badly. Live counters solve it: chaat and golgappa, a tandoor working through the evening, pav bhaji and Bombay street preparations, a dosa or appam station, pasta and grill counters where the crowd is younger, and a dessert counter with hot jalebi and gulab jamun going out as they are made. Food arrives continuously rather than in one sitting that peaks and dies.
The seated Lakshmi Puja dinner
The main night usually wants something more formal. A seated dinner with silver or plated service, a full regional thali, and the kind of pacing that lets a table of twenty actually talk to each other. Menus are built to whichever register your family keeps — Maharashtrian, Gujarati, Marwari, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Sindhi, South Indian, or a spread that covers a mixed family without making anyone feel like the afterthought.
Pure vegetarian and Jain catering is available in full, and satvik preparations for the puja itself are planned into the menu rather than arranged around it.
Corporate Diwali, on the Same Fortnight
The office calendar collides with the family one. Diwali parties, client dinners, distributor evenings and team lunches all want the last week of October and the first week of November, and in 2026 they are competing with a weekend festival for the same kitchen.
We handle corporate party catering at your office, a banquet hall or an offsite venue — live counters for a standing evening, seated dinners for client hospitality, and daytime festive lunches for teams. Décor and floral, bespoke tableware, butler service and our silent-call guest response system come from the same team, so a five-hundred-guest company Diwali runs on one point of contact rather than four vendors and a spreadsheet.
If your function is fixed to a working day, say so early. Weekday evenings in that fortnight go faster than most people expect.
Everything Around the Food
Diwali is a visual festival, and a catered evening should look like one. Alongside the kitchen we bring décor and floral arrangements built for your space, crockery, cutlery and linen chosen to suit the occasion, and butler service where the meal is seated. Live counters turn the cooking itself into part of the room, and for larger gatherings the silent-call system keeps service coordinated without anyone raising their voice across a crowded compound.
We cater across Mumbai and out to Pune, Lonavala, Nashik and Alibaug, so a Diwali hosted at a second home is no more complicated than one hosted in Andheri — which, on a long festival weekend, is a plan more families make than you would think. It is also, simply, what a luxury catering service in Mumbai ought to make possible.
Booking a Weekend Diwali
Three points worth planning around this year:
- Sunday 8 November is the single most requested date of the festival. It is the first to close and the hardest to move.
- Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November carry the card parties and open houses, which are larger and later than most hosts allow for.
- Corporate functions occupy the surrounding weekday evenings, so a family gathering placed midweek is competing with them rather than escaping the rush.
A tasting before the season, where the calendar allows, settles the menu faster than any amount of discussion — and holds your date while you decide.
Plan Your Diwali Table
Tell us which days you are hosting, a rough guest count for each, whether the evening is seated or standing, and where the gathering is happening. We will come back with menu directions for each day and a picture of how the evening would actually run.
From a Dhanteras mithai counter for thirty to a Lakshmi Puja dinner for three hundred, Diwali should be something your family attends rather than manages. Tell us how you keep it, and we will cook it that way.
